Catalonia Open University

The Mediterranean Diet Foundation (FDM) and the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) (Catalonia Open University) have signed an agreement to develop activities of mutual interest such as the organization and conduct of courses, seminars, meetings and seminars designed to strengthen training and research on diet, nutrition and health. The first activity is that two students from the nutrition programs of the UOC will do internships in the FDM each semester.

The two institutions consider it important that those UOC students, future professionals, carry out practical activities with real cases within the working environment with the aim of improving the quality of their training.

Last summer, the Catalonian Open University developed a course about Mediterranean Diet with the following content:

1. Understanding the concepts and key factors of the Mediterranean Diet

 1.1. Balanced nutrition

1.2. What is the Mediterranean Diet?

1.3. Cultural aspects

1.4. Nutritional Survey of Catalonia (ENCATA). What do we eat the Catalans? 1.5. Olive oil

1.6. Viticulture

1.7. Healthy Lifestyle

2. Applying the principles of the Mediterranean Diet in the development of healthy diets

2.1. The child

2.2. Older people to remain young: food in the life cycle

2.3. The adult

3. Addressing obesity with the Mediterranean diet: obesity / document SEEDO and dietary myths

3.1. Diets calories. Food composition table and variation of low-calorie diets

4. Applying concepts of the Mediterranean diet and degenerative disease prevention

4.1. Myocardial infarction. Preventive Document

4.2. Cardiovascular disease. Primary prevention

4.3. Diabetes. Conventional foods

4.4. Cancer and diet
