Good sleep is of utmost importance

Comes from Sleeplessness (I)

The following morning, at 7,00, I touched my friend’s shoulder and handed her a hot and steaming cup of green tea. She was profoundly asleep and got surprised.

“Where am I?” – She asked. Then she seemed to remember. “God, I have been sleeping all the night through. The first time in ages…”

“Remember that you were very hungry last night?” – I asked her. “This is the reason…”

“Ok, it’s a little bit late. I came here twice before. You were so peacefully sleeping that I decided to wait.”

As she was having a shower I prepared breakfast. I put on the table a jug of fresh orange juice and  two big bowls of homemade muesli (oat, almonds, nuts, raw sunflower seeds, raisins, line and sesame seeds and skimmed milk). I took from the fridge a big green asparagus and potato omelet made the previous evening, some ham, cheese and sliced tomato. Then I got an extra virgin olive oil bottle, cut some peasant bread and waited for her to come in.

When Dora, it was her name, entered the kitchen she screamed with joy.

“Sit down and let’s enjoy breakfast” – I told her. “I am suppose you are still hungry.”

After a quiet and nutritious meal, we went to the charity restaurant. I introduced her to the manageress and gave her some instructions about office, phone, computing and so on. Then I drove to my own office.

At noon, I phoned her. “How are the things going?”

“Excellent!” – She replied. “I have gathered 20.000 dollars so far, and half a lorry of food. And best of all, I feel full of energy!”

“Later on, I’ll be there to have lunch with you”. I said to her.

After serving the customers a well balance free meal, the staff of the restaurant used to have lunch together. This day we had a meat, chick peas and vegetable stew, and a varied salad.

At five o’clock we went for half an hour running, enough for the first day. After that, we went back home, had a very light dinner, watched a film and went to sleep.

After a whole week with the same routine, Dora was a new person. She became deeply involved in social programs and signed as permanent member of the Foundation. Back at her job, she fostered new strategies and significant positive changes. In three months, she was promoted to Vice President of her Company.
