Read carefully the food labels

Lately, we are seeing an increasing number of fat-free, sugar-free, cholesterol-free, calories-free, you name it products in the supermarkets.

Except for the skimmed milk or other dairy products, not publicized with those “free” labels, most of the others contain some other ingredients that may not be very healthy. The producers want to offer a product that could be easily accepted by the consumers. And always add something that makes them more attractive.

If you read the labels, you can see that some fat-free items have lots of sugar. The sugar-free ones have fats, the cholesterol free do not really have cholesterol but may have some other ingredients that synthesizes it. Some calories-free ones contain many additives than even not being banned, you should avoid. The vegetal fats products may be filled with trans fat, as they are made out of hydrogenating vegetal oils.

Eat natural foods. They are not completely free of anything. However, you know what you eat. If you eat a pear, you are not having fats, not much sugar and a lot of fiber and vitamins. Fish have fats, but good fats, providing they are not artificially grown and fed with animal fats. Avoid something strange and new. Panga was banned in USA, but not in Europe, where it is massively consumed. Why? Nobody knows… or maybe… some might do.
