Garlic, the king of the additives!

Food additive is any product added to food to enhance its flavour, taste or appearance.

Natural additives are garlic, lemon, vinegar, oil, spices, salt, parsley, etc.…

We can use freely some of them as garlic, oil, parsley…

Others should be used carefully. Salt, for example, is something that should be reduced. Average population salt intake is higher than it should. A good substitute is potassium and magnesium salt. People taking diuretics for blood pressure, are recommended to supplement their diet with these two minerals.

Lately, there are many commercial products, especially dairy ones, that incorporate other additives as omega 3, vitamins, anti cholesterol products and many other things.

We consider that they are not proven enough. Anyway, the quantity added is so low that its effects are not very intense. What we can say is that these additives make the final product extremely expensive! For instance, if you think you need supplementing your diet with omega 3, it’s better and cheaper that you buy omega 3 pills from a reputed chemist, and do not pay exorbitant prices (a plus of 25% to 50% more) for “milk enriched with omega 3”. You should have to drink 10 liters to reach the amount that a capsule offers.

Anyway, if you can… go for the sardines!

Omega 3 capsules are much less expensive than the omega 3 added to the “enriched food”. Anyway, the best source is the sardines!
