Japanese diet

The Japanese diet is lower in calories and rich in fish, vegetables and fruits

Due to Japanese Diet, life expectancy (the expected number of years to be lived by a member of a certain population or community) of Japanese people is the 5º of the world, according to the CIA Fact Book, 2011. To compare, Spain is in 14th place and United Stated in 50th. These figures should be considered carefully. The four first places are for Monaco, Macao, San Marino Republic and Andorra, in this order.

Due to the special characteristics of the Japanese nutrition pattern, researchers are investigating and analyzing the Japanese Diet to find out the roots of the average 82.25 years that Japanese person lives. It seems to be that the main reason is their 3% of obesity rate, the lowest of the developed countries. This is the result of a low calorie diet, derived from cultural reasons and from the beauty of their dish presentations, normally served in small portions and in small plates. In Japanese Diet, people have the opportunity to admire the food before eating it, and become satisfied partially in a psychological way. The result is that they eat less. Other reasons are the high percentage of fish, vegetables and fruit they consume in the Japanese Diet. The percentage of meat is very low. They also eat much fewer potato chips, chocolates and other sources of empty calories.

Everybody knows the benefits of the omega-3 fatty acids, present mainly in fish.
