An unbalanced diet may cause you very important diseases
If your diet is not balanced as the Mediterranean Diet, you may have a lot of problems. Supposing that you get the same or less amount of calories than you spend, the most important are:
a) If your diet is too rich in proteins, you can suffer from gout (disease characterized by the inflammation of the joints (mainly of the feet and hands)
b) If your diet is too rich in fat (you can detect it because your breath smells acetone), you may suffer heart diseases.
c) If you diet is too rich in carbohydrates, the “structure” of your body may suffer (due to the shortage of proteins) and your metabolism can be altered due to the lack of lipids and vitamins associates.
d) If your diet is not balanced, you may suffer from cravings, constant hunger, depression or fatigue. If you want to lose weight, go to the doctor.
Rule of thumb: Get the habit of getting the proteins from fish, the fats from unsaturated lipids and the carbohydrates from vegetables, pasta, rice, bread, etc. Avoid sweets. Don’t add sugar to your coffee.
From time to time or in special occasions, and if your are not following a losing weight process, you can eat all the nice things you wish, providing they are natural. Avoid trans fats, as margarines and other artificially hydrogenated fats. Avoid also the products that cannot guarantee they are free of trans-fats: prepared French fries, croissants, prepared sweets for children, etc. Taking into account that your are not going to eat too much of this type of food, select them properly or make them at home.
The Mediterranean Diet satisfies your psychological desires of eating certain delicious things.
Pay attention that even now margarines are claimed to be healthier that butter, as “they are made out of vegetables oils”. It is a fake, as the process of hydrogenation has converted them in harmful. In many Mediterranean countries as Italy, Greece or Spain diet is deteriorating because of many of these commercial products. Read the labels!
